PENNSYLVANIA - Scranton The city’s bomb unit was called to a West Scranton Space Savers storage unit Thursday after the discovery of what was identified as a military issue anti-tank mine on the ground in front of a commercial trash bin. Bomb technician Sgt. Robert Martin later removed and detonated the device. “Where it came from, nobody knows,” Sgt. Mar tin said. The mine resembled “a big, upside-down pie” about 12 inches in diameter, Acting Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Joyce said.
Officers blocked off Seventh Avenue between Lackawanna Avenue and Broadway while waiting for the police Hazardous Device Unit to arrive.
Sgt. Martin picked the device off the ground and placed it in the unit’s specially designed containment vessel for transport.
Sgt. Martin said the device had been there for three or four months ! Labels: breaking news os9user bomb squad detonates live military anti tank mine scranton pennsylvania
