Bloggers are blasting the AP (Associated Press) about " Fair Use Limits ".
We do not use the AP here, but what they are doing is "unjustified " to bloggers. In summary, 5 words cost you $12.50 !!!
I just made a comment on Search Engine Roundtable about the AP Charging $12.50 for every 5 words used in their stories. Making Light had a great story on this subject as well.
1st of all before I continue, what makes you think for one second ANY BLOGGER would pay $12.50 for 5 words ?
TechDirt reports the prices :
- 5-25 words: $ 12.50
- 26-50 words: $ 17.50
- 51-100 words: $ 25.00
- 101-250 words: $ 50.00
- 251 words and up: $ 100.00
The AP claims that it can revoke the license at any time if it feels you're saying something negative about the Associated Press: "Publisher reserves the right to terminate this Agreement at any time if Publisher or its agents finds Your use of the licensed Content to be offensive and/or damaging to Publisher’s reputation."
Houston : We have a problem - We will never have a license. I am going to tell you "As it Is" , not as you "Tell Me to Say It".
I wonder if CNN, Yahoo News or any other News Sources pay that much. Probably not or those sites would drop the AP like a rock.
Here on the OS9USER, I do pay INBOX for my news, but they are the only ones at this time.
Sky News has been more than generous as well as CBS , NECN & MSN. Out of the 4 , Sky News seems to be the best !
ReUters was recently dropped from this site regarding a complaint we made about their video's.
We hope to have ABC Video's here in the fall, as that part of their news is still under construction. (EMBED Video's)
So there you have it.
First, more and more people are watching Video's.
So Video News is the way to go.
Why in gods name would I pay $12.50 for 5 words ?
I see people re-running our stories, but they include a link back to this site.
This is fine, and we will never complain about that. So ask yourself, what would you rather do ?
Pay for 5 words , or get Video News for Free ???
This helps Sky News, NECN, CBS & MSN get the video's out and viewed to as many as it can. This is what they want.
Apparently the AP just wants your Mon-aaayyy !
Let them see if they can sucker it out of Google, which might react to there " Fair Use Limits " policy.
Google is strict on duplicate content as we are under a Google domain.
My advise, do not even bother getting AP feeds or using their stories. I do not !
And I always find something in the "Breaking Video News" to report.
Enjoy !
