This baby will run on your Desktop or Laptop.

Does it out perform our
US Robotics 5410 Card ?

I will compare the two later on, but lets go on with our review.

The HWU8DD is designed to connect your desktop computer or laptop easily to any Wireless-B or Wireless-G network via a USB connection.

Hawking's Hi-Gain™ Antenna technology extends wireless connection distances by up to 300%.

The HWU8DD is equipped with a new 8dBi Directional Dish antenna that provides more distance and better speeds than other wireless adapters on the market.

The Hi-Gain Wireless-G Dish Adapter is the only wireless adapter to integrate the distance benefits of wireless Dish Technology with WiFi networking.

The built-in LED signal strength indicators provide network signal information to pinpoint the strongest signal available within your area.

Reviews we seen :

"It works like a satellite dish, so the dish catches the wireless signal and improves reception. This WiFi adaptor has an 8dbi antenna, whereas the average adaptor ships with a 2dbi connector. It's a directional antenna, which means you have to point it towards your wireless router, amplifying that signal alone. The wireless Dish has a row of LEDs on the front to show signal quality, so adjusting it for the best signal is easy."

- Computer Shopper UK

"However, it's not just the antenna strength that allows for stronger wireless connections - the fact that its dish shaped means it's also highly directional.

The dish can be rotated and tilted in order to be aimed it in the direction of your router and therefore achieve the best possible wireless signal.

We tested it in multiple environments and were impressed with the results."

Our Review :

For a Price Tag of $69.99 it has it's benefits and draw backs.

The range is up to 800 feet with 22 Mbps of throughput. In our tests on our labtop we got 5.5 Mbps of throughput.

A signal indicator helps you position the dish for the best signal. We had all 5 lights on indicating a good strong signal (as far as the antenna is concerned) and even though our speed was only 5.5 Mbps
we managed to cruise around the internet with no problems.

Our Tech (Jim) reported having problems installing the software using Vista and again in a different computer using XP. This was a bit confusing, since our installation went quick.

However, we did NOT plug in the antenna until the software was finished loading. This would explain some problems you might encounter.

It is always best to wait, before installing new hardware. Get the software in first. This is a great rule of thumb, especially if you want things hassle free.

Here is the kicker guys :

I unplugged my USR5410 802.11g Wireless Turbo PC Card which has a hard time connecting to the router.

This card is not cheap my any means.

The card runs at a whooping
125 Mbps, and absolutely works great (except in the office).

And the bottom line :

HWU8DD USB Wireless-G Adapter Dish works better !

The speed is slower on the Dish, the signal quality is better and it stays online.

My 5410 U.S. Robotic Card cost more than the dish, and fails to a Dish.

Go figure !

I would recommend the
HWU8DD USB Wireless-G Adapter Dish to anyone that uses wireless router to connect to the internet.

Even though it is slower, it works like "Warp Speed" on my labtop !
