Hancock Twist So Far Out, You'll Never See It Coming

Will Smith's new movie 'Hancock', the story of a man with super powers and no interest in using them for good, has an unexpected twist.
Don't worry, we won't reveal what the twist is exactly, but people want to know how 'Hancock' plays out. We're here to tell you - you'll never see it coming.
The AP says the twist "has something to do with why Charlize Theron's soccer-mom-style character doesn't want Smith's surly superhero anywhere near her family." They report: Critics generally thought the turn the movie takes halfway through was a cheat, spoiling what had been a promising idea that was a fresh twist on the superhero genre in its own right.
Tom Charity of CNN says the twist is "so far out of left field, you would need a crystal ball to see it coming."
Much of the criticism Hancock is getting from reviewers (and it’s getting a lot) is based on the third-act twist often described as coming out of left field. I find that assertion ludicrous, as the “twist” is telegraphed very early in the film. When Ray (Jason Bateman) first brings Hancock home, the reaction of his wife Mary (played beautifully by Charlize Theron) is immediate and powerful. It is obvious she knows him somehow, and my first thought was that she was either responsible for his powers or that she would be the film’s big bad.
The truth is far more interesting… she is his soul mate. They are divine beings, created as a pair, drawn to each other across millenia. Their curse is that when they succumb to this attraction, their powers fade, and forces of evil find a way to attack them. There is a little of the Jesus story in this mythology — they must resist the temptation of a human life together in order to carry on saving the world.
Some gay fans, however, may not be so pleased with Hancock whether they like the plot twist ending or not. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is up in arms about the film over derisive anti-gay language spouted by Smith in the movie. During a scene in Hancock, Smith’s character uses the term “homo” in what the organization calls a 'derogatory' manner three times.
“At approximately 24 minutes into the film,” GLAAD writes in a statement regarding the film, “while Jason Bateman's PR whiz works to rehabilitate the superhero's tarnished image, he shows Hancock three comic book images in an effort to inspire him. But Hancock rejects the traditional image of costumed superheroes as he responds to each one: ‘Homo. Homo in red. Norwegian homo.’”
“The audience is prompted to laugh and there is no response to or retribution for Hancock's remarks. Bateman's character, the father of a young son, could have easily spoken up instead of giving Hancock a pass,” GLAAD states.

Woman in U-Haul leads police on wild chase
(NECN) - A woman in a reportedly stolen U-Haul truck was involved in a chase with California Highway Patrol officers. The chase lasted approximately one hour, and the woman was taken into custody.
At the end of the chase the woman stopped the vehicle in the middle of the road, and fled on foot. She attempted to gain access to the passenger side of another car, but that car drove off.
An officer caught up with the suspect, and took her into custody.
