So, You want to scam a News Reporter uh ? I Think NOT !

Friday, November 16, 2012
Is it a good idea to try to scam a Newsroom / Reporter ???

I think not.

A recent phone scam by an online site called ; WakaNetwork was tried on me. My phone # is so classified that not even the President has it (GRIN).

Here are a just a few anomalous complaints that happened hours after they tried it on me;

Person # 1

I got a call saying I had won something from a recent survey. They called on my verizon phone. I don't give out that number. So I thought it was legit. There was a fee for sending something, but it was on a secure network. So I used my card but it didn't go through. I tried like 3 times. Then they asked to use a different card so I said hold on. I looked it up on line and saw it was a scam. So I told them it was a scam hung up and cancelled all my credit cards.

Person # 2

computer operated voice told me to go to this web site pay 2.99 and waka would send me a gas card and other, prises and notify my email. I have never recieved a notice of yet.The phone number that I was givn is 19713732920.

 Person # 3

phone call insisting that I go to my computer and fill out a form which included a credit card number. I was to get an email within a few hours. So far nothing has been sent. I assume that my card has been charged at least $2.99.

After these 3 complaints (filed the same day) , was me (OS9USER).

Well, this time they went to far. Each of the 3 People (above) filed complaints the same day as I did.

I will file my complaint with the FBI (See Below for Info).

One thing for sure, is who ever you are; you do not know who you are talking to at the other end of the phone.  Talking to a reporter is not a good idea especially if you are a scammer. You are bound to make the News !

And you did.

Some quite remarkable things happened ( that I wish to share ) so no one gets caught up in this scam.

1) I could clearly hear (she) was reading from a script. I do not think she could have talked any faster.

2) When I denied having a credit card, she knew otherwise. She said, " Well it shows here you do have a credit card."

3) When I confronted her about this "she went silent". I was mighty furious that I was called a lier. First, I said I didn't have a credit card, yet she insisted I did. Serveral times.

4) Hundreds of dollars in Gift certificates from "well" known companies were mentioned. Only an idiot would believe they are going to get nearly a thousand dollars in Certificates for free, just for registering with someone. I am not saying this is impossible, I have heard this before, but there is a saying I hold true ...

" If it sounds too good to be true,
 then it is not "

5) She also indicated to me that someone in my "household" had forwarded my name and phone # to them. Well, let me tell ya something, I did look deep into our Network here. There was NO BREACH at our end to rest assured. Also, my place of business, does not indicate that I am working from home. ( Bad move )

6) When I went online to fill out the Application, I had to lower the system security, to get the website to properly display. When I did that, My IP address, and a few other pieces of information leaked out of my browser. Information that I didn't want them to have. ( I should have knew better, They called when I was in a meeting, I should have dropped them right there, but they were so insistent that I excepted the call ).

The very 1st check on these people revealed some startling information. I did not get in the News business to blast out companies. Just to report the news. I do try very hard not to add any Emotion to our articles. ( ya , its tough )

How can you file a complaint against a scammer ?

Well, the FBI has a list and tips to protect yourself and your family from various forms of Internet fraud of things to avoid. It is worth the read even if you have not been scammed.

Regardless of where a suspicious site appeared, you can take action by alerting the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which handles complaints about deceptive or unfair business practices. To file a complaint, visit http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/contact.shtm, call 1-877-FTC-HELP, or write to the following address:

Federal Trade Commission
CRC-240
Washington, D.C. 20580

These are only 2 ( but an effective 2 ) places where you can go to file a complaint. Just tell them what happened to you, they will take care of the rest. Google has a site that you can report websites to as well. I could not find the link (quickly) , so I did not include it, but there is one.

If they attempt this again, trust me, I'll be ready to start a phone trace. It's about time the FBI starts pounding down a few doors.
